Akal Takht bans Guru Granth Sahib in homes with bars

Besides bars, the Sikh families using substances that are against the basic tenets of the religion have also been cautioned against keeping the holy book in their homes.

Acting on suggestions and complaints of some faithful, Akal Takht - the highest temporal body of Sikhs - ruled on Tuesday that Guru Granth Sahib can't co-exist in houses that have bars or with things proscribed by the religion, such as tobacco, intoxicants and halal meat. The decision was taken at a meeting of the top Sikh clergy at the Akal Takht secretariat in Amritsar.

Akal Takht jathedar (chief) Giani Gurbachan Singh said keeping the Granth Sahib in houses of Sikhs who had made liquor bars in their drawing rooms was tantamount to disrespect for the holy book, which is considered a living embodiment of Sikh gurus.

Besides bars, the Sikh families using substances that are against the basic tenets of the religion have also been cautioned against keeping the holy book in their homes.

"Sikh families who consume halal meat, smoke hookah, charas (hashish) and tobacco are also banned from having the parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in their homes. We have not only given directives but also advised Sikhs to abstain from such practices else religious action would be taken against them on receiving any such complaint or violation," said Singh.

Sikhs protest against Asaram's remarks

They demand apology from religious guru.

Sikh community members burn an effigy of Asaram Bapu on Sunday.

Close to 150 members of Sikh community on Sunday staged a strong protest at Sant Asaram
square against spiritual guru's controversial remarks against Gurunanak Dev.

After facing charges of sexual assault against a minor girl at Jodhpur based ashram, the
controversial religious mentor reportedly had said that he was ready to go to Tihar jail, as
'Gurunanak Devji also went to jail twice.'

Various organisations representing Sikh community have strongly reacted to these
remarks and Sunday's protest was part of the reaction.

The enraged Sikh protesters beat up Asaram's picture with shoes and also burnt his effigy
to vent their anguish. The demonstrators also blackened Asaram's picture displayed at the
square, while demanding apologies from the self-proclaimed godman.

The agitated protesters also raised slogans against Asaram Bapu.

One of the protesters, Ranvir Bagga, told that the Sikh community is demanding
unconditional apology from Asaram Bapu for his remarks.

The community has demanded from the mayor Krishna Murari Moghe that name of the
Asaram Bapu square should be changed and should re-christened behind any
martyr, Bagga said adding that the community would continue to protest against
the religious guru unless he tenders an unconditional apology for his remarks.

Asaram's comparison with Guru Nanak angers Sikhs, case filed

Sikhs took to the streets here on Wednesday to vent their ire over the remark made by 's media adviser Neelam Dubey likening him to Gurunanak Dev, while defending the controversial godman in the sexual assault case.

"The foul mouthed Neelam Dubey, spokesperson of self proclaimed Godman, Asaram Bapu, ranting bad words about our religious leader, Gurunanak Dev and about other religious leaders and saints like Kabir Das, Sai Baba goes to show that she does not believe in humanity. And such a person is spokesperson of the Godman," said Harmeet Singh Kalka, Joint Secretary of  Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, who led the protests.

"We came here to protest after she used those words on media platforms and has now locked her home and run away," he added.
The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has filed a case against Neelam Dubey for comparing Asaram Bapu to Guru Nanak Dev.
According to the complaint, she allegedly made objectionable remarks against Gautam Buddha, Guru Nanak and other religious leaders while reacting to the rape allegations made by a minor girl against Asaram Bapu.
A similar complaint has also been filed against the controversial godman's media advisor in Punjab by the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

In view of the complaint filed by the Sikh religious bodies, Delhi Police have also obtained the video footage of the show.

DCP (New Delhi) SBS Tyagi said that neither the Asaram trust or the godman has apologised or withdrawn their comments.

There's no comparison between Asaram bapu and Guru Nanak ji

It hurts me, when anyone could think of comparing "My Waheguru" with Asaram Bapu..

How can Neelam Dubey ,give such a statement, which hardly anyone could have dream't off..I became restless after watching, the vedio of Neelam Dubey pointing out clearly on Guru Nanak Ji.

History of Guru Nanak Dev ji...Part-13

This is 13th video of Guru Nanak Dev Janam Sakhi. This story about Nanak ji's Father in laws.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Bani

COMPOSITION AND COLLECTION OF BANI:
These were the years when most of the Guru's disciples received religious instructions from him and who recorded what they received. Many devotees, it is said, copied the daily prayers and hymns. These collections were called 'Bani Pothis' (books of hymns). The Bani Pothi compiled during his life time was passed on to the second Guru, Guru Angad Dev.

FURTHER TRAVELS FROM KARTARPUR:
Although the Guru had settled down at Kartarpur, but he still took small tours within the radius of 100 to 200 miles around Kartarpur. He went to many places and preached his gospel of Nam. At many of these places, the people became Guru's followers and they set up Gurdwaras in his honor.

GURU AT ACHAL BATALA:
About 25 miles from Kartarpur, there was a place called Achal Batala where on the occasion of Shivratri festival, hundreds of Jogis used to come to take part in the festival. The Guru also went to Achal Batala to preach his doctrine. Thousands of people came from far and near to see and hear him. There were three camps- one of the Jogis, another of the Guru and the third one of a party of musicians. More and more people gathered around the Guru's camp than that of the Jogis. This made the Jogis very angry and jealous and they were determined to humble the Guru.
Whatever the money the musicians were getting from the audience, they put it in a bowl. Somehow the Jogis stole their bowl full of money and hid it someplace thinking that the musicians would go to the Guru for help and if the Guru was unable to locate the bowl, he would be humbled.
Knowing about the greatness of the Guru, the musicians went to the Guru for help to find their bowl of money. The wonderful Guru told them about the mischief of the Jogis and recovered their bowl from the hiding place. Thus the Jogis suffered a tremendous defeat.
Next attack from the Jogis came through a discussion. As mentioned before the Guru after his travels, laid aside the pilgrim's apparel and had put up ordinary dress of a family man. The Jogis said,"O Guru, you are a holy man but you are wearing the garb of a family person. Why does a holy man lead a family life?" Jogi Bhagarnathfurther asked the Guru,"When the milk becomes sour, no butter is produced by churning it, why have you cast away your hermit's dress and donned ordinary clothes?"
The Guru replied,"O Bhangarnath, your mother was an unskilled woman. She knew not how to wash the churn, and so spoilt the butter in producing thee. Thou hast become an anchoret after abandoning thy family life, and yet thou goest to beg to the houses of family men."
Upon this reply the Jogis were enraged and through their miraculous powers, they started to harass the Guru. One Jogi became a cobra to frighten the Guru, the other became wolf and other started rain of fire. The powerful Guru sat calmly unperturbed and unharmed. When the Jogis were beaten badly, Bhangarnath asked the Guru that he exhibited miracles to the world, why he was slow to exhibit the same to them?
The Guru replied that he had no miracles except the True Name, and he uttered the following Sabad:
"Were I to put on a dress of fire, construct a house of snow and eat iron;
Were I to turn all my troubles into water, drink it, and drive the earth as a steed;
Were I able to put the firmament into one scale and weigh it with a tank;
Were I to become so large that I could be nowhere contained;
and were I to lead every one by the nose;
Had I such power in myself that I could perform such things or cause others to perform them, it would be all in vain.
As great as the Lord is, so great are His gifts; He bestoweth according to His pleasure.
Nanak, he on whom God looketh with favor obtaineth the glory of the True Name."
(Majh di Var, Slok Mohalla 1, p-147)
The Jogis then finally complimented the Guru on his success and said,"Hail, O Nanak, great are thy deeds! Thou hast arisen a great being, and lit a light in this age of falsehood (kalyug) in the world."

Guru Nanak's Birthday

When is Guru Nanak's birthday? Where is the first guru's birthplace? How is his birth commemoration celebrated?
Modern day Nankana, Pakistan, originally belonged to the northern region of Punjab. It is the birth place of Nanak Dev, the first guru of the Sikhs. A gurpurab or an annual commemoration of a guru's birth is celebrated in his hometown.
Ancient records indicate Nanak Dev to have been born on the 3rd day of the waxing moon or Sudi 3 in the month of Vaisakh, year 1526 of the Vikram Samvat (also spelledBikram Sambat) calendar. The Hindu solar calendar based on lunar cycles, and astrological influences, which originated about 57 B.C. is 56 years, 8 months, and 17 days ahead the Western Gregorian calendar which places Guru Nanaks' birth in 1469 A.D.

Janam Saakhis (Birth Fables)

Janam Saakhi narratives which date Guru Nanak’s birth in Katik (mid November) appear to be fanciful fables. Tales bent on discrediting earlier accounts, make it difficult for historians who have been unable to decipher whether Guru Nanak's birth was supposed to have occurred on the lunar or solar Katik.

Gurpurab Celebrations

Fluctuations in lunar based solar calendars, coupled with conflicting historical accounts, resulted to changes being made to the date of Guru Nanak's commemorative gurpurab birthday celebration. Historically, pooran mashi or full moon birthday festivities, were observed on Vaisakh (mid April - mid May) until the Samvat year 1872 (1815 A.D.). Contemporary ceremonies coincide with the full moon in Katik (mid October - mid November).

East West Calendar Conversions

According to the calendar in use in modern day India, Guru Nanak's birthday is calculated to fall during the full moon. The celebration date changes with each subsequent year. Attempts to adjust the calendar to a fixed rather than a variable date, continue to cause controversy. The result is the New Year of the 1998-99 version of the Nanakshahi calendar which commences with the first day of Chet beginning in 1469 as year one (the year of Guru Nanak's birth) with the date of Guru Nanak’s birth affixed to March 14, 1469, of the Western Julian Calendar or 530 Nanakshahi. Subsequent changes subject to ongoing controversy, place Guru Nanak’s birth date fixed on April 14th, 1469. A.D. of the modern day Gregorian calendar, or the first day of Vaisakhwith 1999 A.D. corresponding to 531 Nanakshahi. However, most traditional gurpurab celebrations still occur on the full moon between late October and late November.

Research Continues(PART-6)....

Finding the sweet retha was our biggest achievement. I thanked Waheguru ji for the special gift.
we asked the local people that "Are there any more trees like this one?", the reply was "No, this is the only one", while we were discussing with them, we came to know about the head of kurukkalmadam, who had written a book about Guru Nanak Sahib ji visit here, we felt good that there are people who are interested and are writing about our religion in Srilanka.

We went to those people ,had a good long discussion , They said that there were 2 Guru Nanak who came to Srilanka. We corrected that "No, only 1 guru ,Guru Nanak Dev ji came here".

We were facing a communication barrier, because we were not able to conversate with them in their local language. They were just focusing on 2 Guru Nanak, who came to Srilanka, They said "NANAK GURUNATH"  came during the 2nd visit to Srilanka...

After a long Debate we explained them that it means "NANAK GURU KA NATH" and not Nanak Gurunath .
It was clear that they confused  BHAI PAINDA JI as Guru Nanak.
Many years after Guru Nanak Dev ji visit to Srilanka, when our holy book "GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI " was being complied, Guru Arjun Dev ji asked Bhai Painda ji to go and get the sakhiyan from Srilanka.

We Debated long on this topic , we showed our Sakhiyan and other evidence to those people and they were very much convinced .Finally after that long session we asked our leave ,In respect those people presented us with a copy of the book.

Research Continues(PART-5)....

Main uss jal nu chakya bhi, tanh mainu vibration mehsus hui!! (I even tasted that holy sweet water and felt a vibration inside me), then we went to a temple ,and we found a symbol of a flower (similar to the symbol we posted in the later post)which matched the symbol in the script we had found in the museum.
There was a silver plate there, on which that symbol of the flower is inscribed. We tried to figure out the importance of that symbol, from various scholars and priest of the temple and they told us that that symbol is considered very much religious and the people worship it wholeheartedly.

We discussed this aspects with various local people ,who hesitated in the beginning but later as they got to know us and our work, they opened up with us and told us that there was a temple which was here since 100 years but dutch destroyed it , when they were in Srilanka and still the remainings of the temple were buried at that very place.

Next day, near the pond I prayed to god "Waheguru ji , main vyakul ho raha hun, par koi nai samaj payega meri vyakulta ko , ap meri madad karo, koi avshesh deyo ji, ki main loka nu dass saka ki haan!, tusi aaye si aithe..waheguru ji ,ashish baksho..wahegueu!!"(Waheguru ji, I am feeling restless after seeing the purity here and no body will be able to understand this , please waheguruji , give me some clue , so that i could tell everyone about your visit here.. Waheguru ji..help me..Waheguru!!)

and then I continued looking around that area, there was a place where I felt as if something is pushing me towards it. and my feets rushed towards that place and when I stoped, I was standing infront of a huge tree and it was bearing small fruits just similar to retha. we tried tasting that fruit, but local people stopped us from tasting it, they said it was poison.
But we had faith in the power and we tasted it and it was a sweet( after the fact that retha is always considered sour, most bitter and such a product is used as a soap in other parts of the world)

Research continues(PART-4)....

Next day, me and my friend Brij Mohan Singh  went to the temple in Kurukkalmadam and it was divine being in that temple, we researched about the temple from various local people and priest of the temple, who disclosed that there is a pond behind the temple.

The fact was that kurukkalmadam is a place which is of 1km range and at one end their is the silent sea and other side a rough and deep sea and it was strange finding sea in the middle of that place.

That water of the pond was different...felt instincts of powerfulness(This was the first time during my whole journey , i felt instincts that were so powerful and peaceful).

Research Continues (PART -3)....

On internet,it was mentioned that at Dbar in Srilanka, there's a gurudwara, but when we reached there , there was no gurudwara, we researched a lot, we asked local people about it ,we went to every single lane in batticaloa to understand the truth , we found that there was a hindu temple, where scholars disclosed that its the place where Hanuman Ji , flamed out the fire on his tail, which Ravan had flamed , when Hanuman ji came to his kingdom, to rescue Sita ji.
So, after discussing further history of batticaloa with the scholars there in Srilanka, We found that near baticolova at kurukkalmadam , Guru Nanak dev ji came and even in our Sakhiyan ,their are such evidences..
We visited kurukkalmadam and we started looking for our traces all over the city, we reached every possible agency, all the local residents about the history of the place, also went to every possible temple, mosque, church because their is maximum average of muslim and hindu religions.

In Kurukkalmadam , we where being treated as the chief guest by one of the government school , who were organizing there annual sports day . We were given a true respect from the authority and we felt pleasured watching school kids performing their best.

RESEARCH CONTINUES (PART- 2)....

After this ,we went to Anuradh Pura Museum where Gurunanak Dev ji went according to our Sakhiyan , where he debated and spread his message of humanity all around the district among the buddhist(Buddhghosht). There's a Buddhist Spoot, the biggest spoot in the world. We also discovered various Scripts , We found that there were bits of punjabi language inscribed over them and we also found a script with Nanak written over it.We discovered that the script might contain 1400-1600 AD languages i.e Landa, Takri, Sharda , Gupta and Devagiri which were used in North India i.e Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab till Sindh .These languages were getting mixed during this period and Gurmukhi originated from the mix of these languages only.We are still working, over decoding the Script found in Srilanka.

We did our survey by going to various museums, morgue record points, various churches and mosques and unlimited temples . We also conducted Secondary Research , We google about the various locations that where pointed containing gurudwara, we also visited such places and we found that there were no gurudwara in those areas and not even sikh families were residing there.
Hi Guys.

I am Sarvjeet Singh Modi, a resident of India, a transporter by profession, a simple person who always had a normal life with a standard daily routine, and a passion of knowing more about religions, i have great insight of these ,I have read and debated a lot about them with whose so ever is interested.

My this passion gave me the most unexpected, internal enlightment discovery, I went to Srilanka in 2009, this trip was organized to understand the inside and truth of Ramayan. We visited many palces, such as Ashok Vatika, where Ravan after Sita haran took her to stay with him , Sita Vaka and Vibhishan Temple, where Laxman ji and Hanuman ji crowned Vibhishan as the king of Srilanka and many more, after this I truly understood a lot of things.I found that there are hindu temples in Jafna and Baticolova District but there are many buddhist temples in rest of Srilanka. Ashok Kumar Kainth ,our guide in Srilanka help us to communicate with the local people, because the local language is singla, Tamil and Malyalam. He also guided us to discover the insights of Ramayan.

I always had read in various Sakhi's that gurunank dev ji visited Srilanka in second Udasi But we found that there was no Single Gurudwara there, So after consulting various people , we decided to conduct a reseach in order to find exactly the traces of Guru Nanak Ji in Srilanka. According to the map provided in the sakhiyan, we went to the respective places ,starting with columbo , the Capital of Srilanka ,there was not a single local gurudwara sahib in srilanka .We went to the archeological center of columbo , where we consulted the director ,who told us that there's a script of Guru Nanak Dev ji in Anuradh Pura museum (300 km away from columbo) and we also found that somewhere in District Kotte there was a copper plate inscribed with "NANAK ACHARYA" , honored by the people of kotte to Guru Nanak dev ji. We continued our search of finding this copper plate, but after searching various temples and museum of kotte ,we were still not able to locate it. We also found that there is a Mardana Nagar , it clicked us ,that might be the city is named on the name of saint Mardana ji, who used to accompany Guru Nanak Dev ji everywhere. In Mardana Nagar, after talking to the heads of the city it was not clear about the history ,so we are still working on this fact.

Temples of Srilanka, where we surveyed everyone, to understand the truth

If anyone has more insight to our research or anyone wants to know anything.. can write to us.
